Assault - Man in Wheelchair Attacked By Two Young Men At Train Station at Mt Druitt Sydney
A 35 year old Canadian man is undergoing surgery for a skull fracture after being allegedly brutally bashed by two young men at a Sydney train station on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at about 11pm Tuesday when the victim was waiting for a train on the platform of the Mt Druitt railway station. He was allegedly approached by two young men who began verbally abusing the man. The victim attempted to leave the station but was allegedly set upon by the youths.
When the Canadian man entered the lift, the two young men followed. One of the men allegedly punched the victim in the face which caused him to fall backwards out of his wheelchair. Disturbingly, the two young men then allegedly continued to attack the man by stomping on his body. They then allegedly tried to steal his wheelchair and belongings before hitting him in the head and body with metal bars.
It is alleged that the men then left the lift but returned a number of times to continue the assault on the victim. After fleeing the scene, one of the young men was arrested by police following a short pursuit. A 17 year old man is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
A search is underway to locate a second man who has been described as being of Pacific Islander appearance and aged in his teens.
The Canadian victim is in the Nepean Hospital currently undergoing surgery for a depressed skull fracture.
Anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information ion the incident is asked to contact Mt Druitt Police on (02) 9625 0000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
