Great Western Highway Car Crash near St Marys - Facebook Social Networking Site Releases News First - Three Dead Teens Named as Chris Naylor 19, Bobby Vourlis 17, Kelsie Coleman 15
Maybe it is a sign of the times, but it has emerged that the news of the accident which led to the deaths of three teenagers, first appeared on Facebook - before one of the families had been notified.
The accident occurred at about 3.15am on Sunday when the Ford XR6 carrying five people left the Great Western Highway and struck a power pole. 17 year old passenger Bobby Vourlis was found dead at the scene while the driver 19 year old Chris Naylor and rear seat passenger,15 year old Kelsie Coleman died shortly afterwards.
Two other passengers, a 17 year old girl and a 16 year old girl needed surgery for serious leg injuries.
It has been reported that the sisters of Bobby Vourlis checked their facebook on Sunday morning only to find messages of condolence regarding their brother and his friend Chris. Confused, they rang their mother who made contact with St Mary's police where it was confirmed that Bobby Vourlis was deceased.
Police have suggested that the delay in notifying the family was due to the difficulty in confirming the identity of the deceased boy.
The road toll in NSW stands at 51 for 2010 - 23 more than at the same time last year.
