Taxi Driver Stabbed and Robbed in Sutherland, Sydney

Police are hunting for three bandits who were involved in an attack on a taxi driver in Sydney on Sunday night.

It is believed that the incident tool place a little after 10pm on Sunday after the driver picked up three passengers in Vermont Street, Sutherland. The taxi driver took the men to a petrol station on the Old Princes Highway in Sutherland where they stopped to purchase some items from the shop.

After returning to the taxi, the men then asked the taxi driver to take them to a block of units in Oakwood Street, Sutherland. After leaving the car, two of the men then returned to the driver and grabbed the keys from the ignition and then demanded money from the driver.

The taxi driver complied with the request and handed over some cash. One of the men also took the GPS from the taxi. It is understood that the third man then stole the mobile phone of the driver and in the process, stabbed him in the leg with a small knife. All three men then fled from the scene.

The 39 year old taxi driver needed stitches to the wound in his leg.

Police have released descriptions of the men they wish to speak to. One of the men has been described as being of Aboriginal appearance, aged about 18 to 20 years old and 170cm tall. The other males are described as being 16 to 18 years old and also about 170cm tall.
