Teen Deaths in Major Car Crash at Mount Compass

Fatal Crash - Jake McMillan, Matt Solly and Brock Grivell Killed in Car Accident in Mt Compass, South Australia

In scenes reminiscent of those seen in Mill Park, Melbourne last week where five men were killed, three young local men have died when the car they were passengers in hit a tree on Australia Day at Mt Compass.

The crash is understood to have occurred at about 8.50pm on Tuesday night when the Holden Commodore travelling east along Woodcone Road lost control and crashed into a large tree. The driver, a 17 year old P Plater who has not been named, survived the crash with only minor injuries.

The driver has since been charged with three counts of causing death by negligent driving and will appear in the Youth Court in February.

Police are still investigating the circumstances leading to the crash although early indications point to excessive speed and inexperience on the part of the driver. It is not believed that alcohol was involved in the accident.

Locals gathered at the scene of the accident to place memorials, as well as at the local football club where all three dead teens were said to be talented players. A facebook memorial site has also been set up to pay tribute to the dead men.

Police are urging all drivers to take more care on the roads. 19 people have been killed on South Australia's roads in January - the worst January road toll in over 10 years.
