Eight Injured in Bonfire Explosion in Ourimbah

Central Coast NSW Bonfire Explosion - 8 People Injured at Ourimbah

Eight people have suffered burns and been admitted to hospital for treatment following a blast in a paddock of a rural property in Ourimbah on Australia Day.

The explosion occurred at the property on Ourimbah Creek Road at about 8.30pm Tuesday where about 100 young people were celebrating Australia Day.

It is believed that a significant amount of fuel was poured on the fire sparked the explosion. The injured people were all aged between 14 and 20 years old. Three of the injured were in a serious condition with burns to their face, arms and legs.

It is believed that five of the victims were taken to the burns unit at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. Others remained in the Gosford Hospital on Wednesday.

The NSW Rural Fire Service were able to put out the fire before it spread. Police are conducting an investigation into the explosion.
